I have been the groomer at an Animal Hospital for many years. I believe it was around the year 2000, that my workplace (Animal Hospital of Putnam in Putnam,CT) started doing business with A&J Sales and Service. Tony has always been prompt and efficient with all of our sharpening needs. My blades and sheers always come back clean and sharp. Tony has also been very helpful with recognizing when it is time to purchase new tools and he always shares his best product ideas and discounts with no pressure. Thank you A&J Sales and Service for always providing good business.

Sent my fav 5 cordless clippers to be serviced. They came back working great! I am so very thankful to the wonderful job that was done.

I'd like to give a hearty positive review for A & J Sales and Service in Vermont. About every 5 years, I send in my 3 clipper blades to be sharpened and my Aesculap Favorita II clippers to be cleaned and get the once over by Tony. Tony does a beautiful job; my blades have a factory edge and my clippers are still going strong after a decade of heavy use. I shear Angora rabbits and clip our Llasa Apso dog every 90 days. I also clip the Nigerians once a year, and there are around 10 of them!

I have been using A&J Grinding for clipper blade sharpening for several years. It is impossible to find anyone local that performs this service, and many years ago I tried a mail-in service that never returned my blades! A&J does a great job cleaning and sharpening my blades, and the turnaround time is very quick. I can recommend this business without hesitation for their honesty, fair prices, and excellent service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Got a question? We’re here to help.

  • Is it safe to send my knives in the mail?

Yes, it is generally safe to send knives through the mail as long as they are properly packaged to prevent any accidents or injuries during transit. Here are some tips to ensure safe shipping of knives:

    1. Secure Packaging: Wrap the knives securely in bubble wrap or foam padding to prevent them from moving around and causing damage to themselves or the packaging.

    2. Sturdy Box: Use a sturdy cardboard box that can withstand the rigors of shipping. Make sure the box is appropriately sized to accommodate the knives and provide extra padding if needed.

    3. Labeling: Clearly label the package as containing sharp objects to alert handlers to take extra care. You may also consider adding a fragile sticker to the package.

    4. Insure the Package: Consider purchasing shipping insurance to cover the value of the knives in case of loss or damage during transit.

    5. Follow Shipping Regulations: Familiarize yourself with any shipping regulations regarding the mailing of knives, especially if you are sending them internationally. Some countries may have restrictions on certain types of knives.

By following these guidelines, you can ensure that your knives are safely packaged and shipped to AJ Sales & Service. However, it's always a good idea to check with your chosen shipping carrier for any specific instructions or regulations they may have regarding shipping sharp objects.

  • What can I ship?

You can safely ship various items for sharpening through the mail. Ask us about specific items before shipping. Ensure they are securely packaged to prevent damage during transit and consider insuring the package for added protection.

  • What is the best way to ship my blades?

USPS is commonly the best price.  Select an appropriate-sized box and ship it Priority for better service. Make sure to securely wrap each blade in a protective material such as bubble wrap or foam padding to prevent damage. Place the wrapped blades in the box, ensuring they are snugly packed to minimize movement during transit, and clearly label the package as containing sharp objects for the safety of handlers.

  • What types of knives or blades do you sharpen?

We sharpen, Knives, Scissors, and Clipper blades. We even sharpen Wahl 5 in 1 Blades.

  • The tip of my knife has come off - can you fix it?

Yes, we can!  We can reshape the knife and recreate a tip. The knife will be a bit shorter after we recreate the tip.

  • The blade of my knife is bent - can you straighten it?

It is a possibility! We will need to assess the blade and determine the best course of action.

  • Are all knives sharpened the same way?

No, not all knives are sharpened the same way. The sharpening method depends on factors such as the type of knife, its intended use, and the material it's made from, which can vary widely between kitchen knives, pocket knives, hunting knives, and more such as serrated edges requiring a slightly different approach.

  • Do you sharpen asymmetrical edges and single bevels?

We can sharpen any knife edge by using specialized techniques that are often employed to ensure precision and accuracy in sharpening such edges.

  • Do you sharpen serrated blades?

Yes we use a tapered sharpening rod or a serrated knife sharpener to carefully hone each serration individually at the same angle as the bevel, maintaining the original shape of the serrations.

  • How often do knives need to be sharpened?

Sharpen blades promptly upon noticing an increase in cutting resistance.

  • What if I am not 100% happy with the result?

Return it to us, and we will ensure it is rectified to your satisfaction.

  • Can I drop off my blades in person?

Absolutely.  You can call (800)-447-1957 to arrange a drop-off time.

  • How do I schedule a blade pickup?

You can call (800) 447-1957 to arrange a pick-up time.
